I love doing interviews for The Athletic Scholarship Podcast. Not that I am really good at interviewing, but the guests give hands-on and very useful recruiting information to you. Episode 251 is an interview with the Head Coach of Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, KS. Coach Rand Chappell has coached for over 30 years at the Junior College, NAIA, Division 2 and Division 1 levels. Coach Chappell just finished his 1st year at Johnson County and his team made the JUCO National Championship Tournament in the 2020-2021 season.
In this episode, Part 1 of 2, Coach Chappell hits on COVID issues in recruiting, the levels of JUCO that are available, what he looks for when recruiting at all the different levels, JUCO, NAIA, D2 and D1, some of the advantages of Junior College and some of the challenges of college.
I invite you to listen to last week's episode, Episode 250. I was a celebration of the 250th episode of The Athletic Scholarship Podcast and a celebration of the Recruit-Me founder, Jon Fugler. There are many episodes mentioned and below is a link to get all the 250 episodes throughout the last 5+ years. Go back and listen to as many as you can. Listen as you mow the yard, walk your neighborhood or drive to your next tournament.

The Athletic Scholarship Podcast has hit a milestone. The 250th episode is quite an accomplishment. In this episode I will take this 15 minutes to honor and reflect on how the Athletic Scholarship Podcast started and give you a taste of some great information that Jon Fulger passed on in episodes 1-203.
Jon Fulger is the founder of Recruit-Me and the Athletic Scholarship Podcast. I took over in June of 2020, so the overwhelming number of episode were the work of Jon. Let's celebrate this milestone of 250 episodes by listening to how Recruit-Me, Recruit-Me.com and the Athletic Scholarship Podcast were inspired.

Episode 249 includes 6 Psychological Challenges you might encounter in college. There are probably many other subjects I could speak to, but these 6 came to mind. These psychological challenges can effect both the college student-athlete and the family of the college player. They can actually have some effect on your decision on a college and the sports program you choose. As I say in the podcast, the goal of this episode is to "create a little space in your mind" so you will not be surprised and so you can help make decisions while you are still going through the recruiting process.
The Psychological Challenges covered are(in no particular order):
Again, these challenges may effect both the student-athlete and parents. Being aware, being prepared can save some bad situations. Listen to become aware of some of the traps that hurt and shorten college careers.

Attributes. What are attributes? There are many ways to use the word, this episode, Episode 248, uses the Oxford Dictionary definition: a quality or feature regarded as a characteristic or inherent part of some or something. So you are going to use your attributes and achievements to brag on yourself to college coaches. This is an awkward part of the recruiting process, but telling coaches about yourself honestly is how they get to know you and to consider you over other recruits.
Hear the Why? How? and What? of using your attributes. This episode walks you through How to write out your attributes, Why your attributes are important and What you do with all you attributes. Let's get after it!
Last week I skipped the Advice from Recruit-Me Families that is part of the Recruit-Me 3.0 Athletic Scholarship System. Hear two great pieces of advice from parents that used the Recruit-Me 3.0 and have been through the recruiting process. Don't forget to checkout the End of School Special price on the Recruit-Me 3.0 System. It is normally a bargain at $127, but now through May 31st it is only $99.
