Episode 403 has some inspiration from Episode 401.  It made me think of reasons and advantages a student-athlete gets from playing a sport in college.  I go back to my college sport experience and also lean on the experiences during Parker's, my older son's, 4 years at Northwestern playing baseball for the Wildcats and my younger son's, Sutton's, current status as an outfielder for the Columbia College Cougars.  This episode gives you 4 advantages that playing a college sport gives you and highlights them so that you have more justification for persuing the opportunities ahead.  Built-in friendships, academic opportunities and resources, gear and travel are covered in this episode.

Episode 402 is a deep look into how many opportunities are out there for you to play your sport in college.  I my observations through my college experience, my older son's college experience as a college baseball pitcher at Northwestern University and my younger son's current experience as a outfielder at Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri bring me to a conclusion that there is a place for you to play your sport.  Hear about the NCAA Division 1, 2 & 3 levels, the NAIA level, the NCCAA level and the Junior College levels.  I give you resources to search and learn about all the levels, the conferences and some of the teams at each level of play.

A week ago I got a text from a father of a student-athlete that reminded me of Myth #1 About Athletic Scholarships.  Myth #1 is one of ten myths listed and answered in the Recruit Me 3.0 Athletic Scholarship System Manual.  Go to Recruit-Me.com to get access to the ecruit Me 3.0 System for only $39.  Myth #1 listed in the Recruit Me 3.0 is: If my child is good enough, the college coaches will find him or her.  The truth, as stated in the Recruit Me 3.0 is: A very small percentage of high school student-athletes receive scholarships because the coach "happened to find them".  Only the top-line elite athletes receive enough national media recognition that they are automatically recruited without having to make an effort.  The other 99% or so have to take the initiative  to contact the schools where they have an interest.  Most schools recruiting budgets are limited and coaches rely on you to contact them.  There is more on this myth in the Recruit Me 3.0 manual.

The text I got was asking why some local, small colleges and junior colleges hadn't contact his son or the son's coaches about him.  The son, the basketball student-athlete, had just been named to an all-conference and all-district team as the high school basketball season had just ended.  This episode talks about how college coaches don't have the time or money to prosect the many high school student-athletes in the area, the state or the region.  Listen to Epi 401 to hear more about the text and the helpful recruiting information and advice.

Bet on yourself has a lot of angles in your recruitment.  This episode was inspired by me listening to another podcast called the Never Stop Getting Better Podcast hosted by a local football head coach at Nixa High School, Coach John Perry.  Episode 78 of the Never Stop Getting Better Podcast was an interview between Coach Perry and the head football coach at the University of Missouri, Coach Eli Drinkwitz.  During the interview there was a part that talked about how Coach Drinkwitz "Bet on himself" when he took a very low paying job at Auburn University over a higher paying high school head coaching job.  This trigger me to relate how you, a recruit, needs to "bet on yourself" mulitple times throughout the recruiting process.

Welcome to Episode 397 of The Athletic Scholarship Podcast.  One of the most important, challenging and fun parts of the recruiting process is building your college school list to contact.  Recruit Me's philosophy is that you need to recruit colleges to recruit you.  There are free and inexepensive resources out there to help you to build your college school list and then do research on those colleges.  Hear about the resources on the NCAA.org website, the NCAA.com website, the NAIA.org website, the NJCAA.org website, social media and sites and apps like collegecoachesonline.com and the Baseball Bluebook and the Virtual Dugout app.  College team websites have multiple links like the roster link, the coaches' link, the schedule link and the conference link to help you to find schools to add to you college school list and do the research on the team and the school.

Episode 388 of The Athletic Scholarship Podcast is the 2nd episode in a 4 part series about what a high school student-athlete should or can do in there Junior year of the 2024 school year to get recruited.  The Junior year is typically "Go Time" for most high school athletes in the recruiting journey.  Most athlete's, especially boys, are hitting or starting their physical maturation and athletes are playing on a high level in their sport.  College coaches can start contacting high schoolers and visits and offers are eligible in their Junior year.
