Episode 324 was inspired as I recently watched the Facing Nolan documentary on NetFlix. The documentary was a 1 hour and 42 minute story about the Hall of Fame, Major League Baseball pitcher, Nolan Ryan. Ryan first played for the New York Mets in 1966 and he played for 27 years for the Mets, the California Angels, the Houston Astros and the Texas Rangers. I remember collecting baseball cards and Nolan was a big star. He was a hard-throwing, right-handed pitcher and it was said he threw his fastball 100+ miles per hour. Nolan's legacy grew through the late 1970s and all through the 1980s.
The part of the story that really caught my eye was that Nolan Ryan struggled early in his pitching career. He almost quit and through him listening to his wife, him listening and learning from new techniques with his Angel's pitching coach and his refound dedication and hard work. Nolan had never failed and his situation, even though he is now a Hall of Famer, is very similiar to a high school or college student-athlete.
Listen in to see if you hear the similiarities. Also, you will hear some past clips from interviews about the kind of work you need to put in.

Episode 323 was inspired by looking a Twitter one night and seeing a bunch of high school student-athletes post their committments and offers. I was struck by the many different and obscure college names that were listed. Colleges at all levels, JUCOs, NAIA, NCAA Division I, II & II schools. Twitter & other social media sources can give you a name of college that you may want to put on your school list and to research.
Listen to this episode to get many more resources to gain colleges to your school list. Compare them to your parameters list and do research to make a decision to pursue the schools further. Recruit-Me and The Athletic Scholarship Podcast wants you to take charge of your recruiting journey and to contact colleges that fit your parameters. Be aggressive on contacting schools and don't wait for a school to find you and then realize that it is not the right fit for you.

Welcome to The Athletic Scholarship Podcast, Episode 321. Interviews give great, hands-on information and this interview is from a recently graduated Division III football player. My nephew, Easton Hanks, attended, graduated and played football for Westminster College in Fulton, MO. He played for the Blue Jays for 3 years and 21 games as a Defensive Back. His second year was drastically reduced as the Jays played only 3 games because of COVID. Easton not only battled COVID on the field, but in the classroom and he was successful in both. Easton had 36 tackles, 13 assists, 4 interceptions and 11 pass breakups in the 21 games and he graduated with a Business Administration degree in just 4 years of college. Easton attended Ozark Technical College(OTC) right out of HS and didn't play a sport and then transferred to Westminster College and took care of his business in the classroom.
Listen in to hear how Easton ended up at Westminster and what made his decide to play football again after high school. Also, he tells about the competition at the DIII level and his advice on how to get ready to play college football and how to excel.
