Anxiety and panic effects a majority of recruits and their families at some time during the journey. It could be caused by not knowing when or how to start the process. Or, that college coaches are not hanging out in the stands watching you, or, that you are not getting recruited by the college or the level of colleges you want to play for.
Back on October 22, 2019, Jon Fugler, the founder of Recruit Me and The Athletic Scholarship Podcast, published Episode 168. Jon gives you 3 helpful strategies to curb some of the anxieties and panic that can creep into a recruits mind.
Learn what Jon had to say and what I have to add to this review of this episode and these strategies for how to handle the inevitable feelings of anxiety and panic as you navigate your recruiting journey. Happy Halloween!
I came across EducatingAthletes.org, a 501C3, Non-Profit organization that helps direct potential student-athletes on all aspects of football recruiting and recruiting in general. The video I first saw was a young man in a Northwestern polo talking about their recruiting plan. This certainly caught my eye since my oldest son, Parker, played baseball for Northwestern from 2018 to 2022.
Listen to today's episode to learn a little about college football recruiting and to learn how this resource has videos that can help you on your journey.

Jon's Checkpoints are mainly for Juniors and Seniors in High School, but can be used for Junior College student-athletes looking for a 4 year school or for a college athlete wanting to transfer. Here are the 3 Recruiting Checkpoints: #1 Do You have a valid school list to pursue? #2 Do you have 10 college coaches pursing you? #3 Do you have at least 5 schools that are "right fit" possibilities?

This episode, Episode 375, is the 2nd part of a 2 part series that covers 25 General Mistakes When Choosing a College. This series was taken from an article I found on the Collegebasics.com website. The article is named, 25 Common Mistakes in Choosing a College. This article listed common mistakes made by students when picking a college. These are mistakes if a decision is made based on only 1 of the common mistakes listed. This episode covers numbers 13 through 25 of the article. The Athletic Scholarship Podcast takes these individual mistakes and relates them to an athletic student-athlete and the episode also encourages you to combine multiple subjects to research and help you to make a "right fit" college decision.

The next post directs you to contact college coaches before you go to ID Camps, Prospect Camps or Tournaments. Separate yourself from all the other possible recruits. The 3rd post tells you about the frustration of a coach when student-athletes visit their campus and don't ask questions while on their visit. And the last post points out that it is an honor that playing a college sport at any level is.

Episode 355 of The Athletic Scholarship Podcast is A Review of the Interview with a College Basketball Coach; Randy Stange. This episode pulls out a few key points of the interview with Coach Randy Stange. Coach Stange is the Head Basketball Coach at Sterling College in Sterling, KS. Sterling College is an NAIA level basketball team and Coach Stange just finished his 1st year as the Head Coach. Coach Stange did an interview for The Athletic Scholarship Podcast, Episodes 352 & 353 and we covered many subjects including Coach Stange's playing and coaching past. In this week's episode I grab some key points that we were not able to expand on during the interview. I'll hit on Randy's learning experience from not playing much his freshman year of Junior College and ask you how you will handle that situation. A point I bring up is how research about the colleges you contact and finally make a decision on needs to be researched and compared to your parameters list of wants and needs for a athletic and academic experience. I asked Coach Stange how a player wanting to be recruited would get his attention and Coach Stange gives you insight to how he looks at a player's video and how a high school coach's and a club coach's style and input lends weight to a recruit. Listen in to gain recruiting advice for not only basketball, but for any sport you are interested in.
